DES Architects + Engineers CREATES SUSTAINABLE CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS FOR NEXTEST

 

Redwood City — Friday, June 20, 2008 — DES Architects + Engineers has transformed an existing 128,000 sf two-story building for Nextest Systems into a sustainable, cutting-edge headquarters housing Manufacturing, R&D, Corporate offices, Sales and Marketing. The green design captures the company culture while improving operational efficiencies for production, lab, and administration staff.

"We wanted to design a space that is conducive to innovation and invites collaboration and teamwork, explains Jana Gunsul, Principal DES Interiors. We used a multi-layered blue green and soft chocolate brown color scheme to create an expansive environment that connects with the beautiful views." Diffused floor to ceiling glass-windows in conference and training rooms visually integrate adjacent areas and outside views. Colorful inner partitions forming nooks and niches encourage casual meetings and employee connections.

 

The design team - Elke MacGregor, Chi-Wing Wong, Daniela DiLuzio, Rosie Rosales and Adrian Hurin - utilized materials and products that feature high amounts of recycled content or have a low emission rate of volatile organic compounds such as rubber, ceramic tiles, cork flooring, and VOC paints and sealants. Reusing existing furniture and selecting matching new furniture and adding locker and shower facilities, bike storage, waterless urinals, low flow faucets, daylighting, and energy efficient fixtures also catered to sustainability.
