SF BT Times Clipping v3Redwood City, CA — In its Office of the Future special, the San Francisco Business Times highlighted DES Architects + Engineers (DES A+E) as the pioneers of a new software technology called real-time visualization.

To create this new graphics tool, DES A+E’s visual communications, architecture, and interior design teams are partnering together. This new software enables viewers to virtually walk around unbuilt spaces in a life-like manner, much like what a person can experience in a video game. Real-time models have been created for a handful of projects including 181 Fremont in San Francisco and Moffett Gateway in Sunnyvale.

“It definitely is helpful,” said Phil Mahoney of Newmark Cornish & Carey, the broker for Moffett Gateway. “A lot of time you’ll have an executive who doesn’t have time to get there. Now, they can kind of see it.”

The tool enhances the client’s ability to provide faster and more meaningful input on design decisions by bridging the gap between just trying to understand a 2-D floor plan and experiencing the space in 3 dimensions.

“It’s actually allowing the client to feel that they’re participating,” said Jana Gunsul, Director of Interior Design at DES A+E. “Any time you can show the client graphically, they’re going to grab it, compared to reading a floor plan.”

With an integrated design approach, the firm has a unique opportunity to realize the vast potential of this software and deliver it to clients. Not only does this tool bring internal disciplines together, it has the ability to form stronger partnerships between designers and clients, allowing spaces to reflect and fit the users true needs.
