With a hyper-tracked tenant-improvement project that required occupancy in 16 weeks, we had to forgo the typical phased design and construction process. To successfully navigate McAfee’s rigid procurement process and negotiate permitting with the City of San Jose, DES formed a tight-knit and highly functional team with McAfee representatives, third-party project managers, and the general contractor. Weekly design and construction meetings were fast-tracked to twice a week, and then to daily. To accelerate the process, DES worked with the contractor to bid drywall/framing, doors/hardware, lighting, casework, and finishes separately, saving time. Additionally, the space needed a re-branding of the formerly purple-and-yellow color scheme. DES was able to quickly transform the branding to McAfee’s colors within a focused budget.
